img is actually the extension that VirtualBox is looking for, and it may be disk1 or disk3 or whatever in your case. But what I meant was, sudo dd if=/dev/disk2 of=foo.img although I don't know if. Well I'm not promising this will work, since I haven't tried it myself. dmgs as usable floppy images and I had to tell it to search for all file types. Then use dd from the device where the image is attached (/dev/disk2 or whatever). Mount the disk image and copy your stuff onto it.
